Story
In Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 Ultimate Edition the desperate leadership of a doomed Soviet Union travels back in time to change history and restore the glory of Mother Russia. But the time travel mission goes awry, creating an alternate timeline where technology has followed an entirely different evolution, a new superpower has been thrust on to the world stage, and World War III is raging. The Empire of the Rising Sun has risen in the East, making World War III a three-way struggle between the Soviets, the Allies, and the Empire with armies fielding powerful over-the-top weapons and technologies like tesla coils, Kirov war blimps, massive samurai robots, armored bears, dolphins with sonic weapons, floating island fortresses, and transforming tanks.

Gameplay
In true Command & Conquer form, action in Red Alert 3 Ultimate Edition is based on classic RTS gameplay. Through this players align themselves with either the Allies, the Soviets or the Empire of the Rising Sun, and proceed to establish bases, manage collected resources from controlled territories and escalate technology acquisition in order to eventually eliminate battlefield rivals. Throughout the game players will utilize the franchises familiar mechanism of churning out an array of buildings, units and vehicles to facilitate this, but will also be faced with a series of new variables. Some of these will come in the form of new, powerful units like the Empire of the Rising Sun's Shogun Executioner, a giant mech wielding energy blades, the armored attack bears of the Soviets and the sonic attack of the Allies' dolphin ship, but there is also a change to the game's terrain to consider. Now in addition to battle on, and over land, players also have to be aware of the realities of naval warfare, as combat is extended to the waters on their borders.

Another aspect of RTS gameplay that Red Alert 3 Ultimate Edition address is the need for superior control functionality. Too often when a PC RTS game makes the leap to gaming consoles, shedding keyboard and mouse functionality, players experience a reduced ability to respond quickly to attacks via unit production and/or changes to production. This is not the case in Red Alert 3 Ultimate Edition. Through its radial command menu, which utilizes the DualShock 3's analog stick and the 'X' button, players can execute commands with three button presses or less and can queue up production of units to occur as resources are gathered to supply them. In addition, commands to existing units on the battlefield and your commanders are easily facilitated by controller shortcuts, such as a single face buttons to select/deselect all on screen units and another to direct their movements, providing a fast way to make immediate field commands.

Key Game Features:

  • Ultimate Red Alert 3 Experience - Bloopers & outtakes, behind the scenes, developer strategy videos, and new battleground maps not found anywhere else. Enjoy your favorite songs from the soundtrack and study tactics with the unit profiles video encyclopedia. Watch the women of RA3 heat up the camera in the "Girls of RA3" featurette –all presented in HD Blu-ray with enhanced visuals, and only for the PS3.
  • It’s Always Better With Someone Else - Fight your way through three campaigns solo, or join forces with your friends or one of nine, in-game commanders, each with unique personalities and play styles, in missions designed from the ground up for co-op play.
  • Star-Studded Storytelling - Command & Conquer’s trademark live-action videos return in HD, with over 60 minutes of footage featuring the largest cast in the history of the Command & Conquer franchise.
  • Command the Seas, Conquer the World - Experience gameplay as if for the first time in the series, waging war on the water will be every bit as important as dominating by land and air. Gain strategic advantages by controlling resources in the seas and mounting three-pronged attacks from all directions.
  • A New Threat From the East - The deadly Empire of the Rising Sun is a technological terror, with designs influenced by a mixture of anime, science-fiction, martial arts and robot culture. The Empire’s futuristic units can transform into alternate forms, and they specialize in naval warfare.
  • CommandStick 2.0 - Improving on the CommandStick interface first pioneered in Command & Conquer 3 Kane’s Wrath, PS3 owners will get an unparalleled console RTS experience, with controls designed for PS3 gamers, accessible to gamers of all skill levels.
  • PlayStation Network Trophies - Red Alert 3 Ultimate Edition features 50 PSN trophies spread throughout the single player and multiplayer campaigns.

This is a pretty good game. The graphics are different then some of the other C&C games, almost cartoonish. But i like it regardless. I would reccomend it it anyone who likes a challenging strategy game

5 out of 5 stars Great RTS on the 360   June 1, 2010

I've played both Halo Wars and Red Alert 3 along with many other RTS games on the PC (Red Alerts, Starcraft, Warcrafts, etc.). Now this would definitely be easier to control and play on the PC, but for the amount of buttons the 360 has the controls for this game were done very well. It has 3 great campaigns (the dialog is a little cheesy, but it is Red Alert): Russians, Allies, and The Empire of the Rising Sun. Each campaign has 9 levels and some can get pretty complex. I've spent lots of hours into this game and for the $10 price tag I paid you can't beat it. I haven't played online or any local skirmishes so I can't rate on those, but for the price the campaigns are well worth your money.

5 out of 5 stars Great XBox game for the CnC enthusiast   March 8, 2010

As a big fan of Red Alert 2 and the Yuri's Revenge expansion pack, I was eager to try out Red Alert 3 when it came out. I played it on a friend's PC in Fall 2008, but wasn't too impressed by the overt use of multiple commands. Also, a major factor in putting off the purchase of the PC version was the SecuROM issue as mentioned by other reviewers.

However, after a friend loaned me his XBox 360, I decided to take the plunge and picked up the XBox 360 version of the game. Needless to say, I had a blast playing the game. Red Alert 3 uses the CommandStick interface, which basically allows you to access all the game functions from a rotary menu which pops up when you hold down the right toggle. It does take a little getting used to, but the tutorials presented by the Guardian Tank, Hammer Tank and the Tsunami Tank make it easy to learn the controls. Not to mention, you get a few points, and an achievement for completing the tutorial.

Red Alert is known for its over-the-top acting and fancy units, and Red Alert 3 is no different. Use the tutorials to get a feel for all the units and factions and get an idea of how to play the campaigns.

If you have played Red Alert 2/Yuri's Revenge, bear in mind that the technologies used by the different factions are quite different. Without going into too much detail, the Allies use a similar build technology as in Red Alert 2, the Soviets: something like what you'd find in an Age of Empires game, and the Empire "don't need no stinkin' build radius!". Each faction also has different methods of upgrading their technologies.

The campaigns (which I'm in the middle of), are challenging, but so far I haven't found any situations which were impossible to beat. The units seem more balanced than those in Red Alert 2 (at least, I can no longer execute an effective tank rush with just Guardian Tanks). One new (and odd) feature is that if your commando unit is killed on the field, you can simply retrain her. With Red Alert 2, if you lost your commando, the mission was a failure. I don't know if this is the same case for the AI commando. Regardless, this doesn't take away any of the fun.

I did try a skirmish mission but lost almost immediately to an easy AI. I'd probably chalk that up to my inexperience with the new units, but I did read an earlier review which blasted the AI. With that said, I can't say I know enough about the skirmish AI to complain about it. I'll update this review after I play (and win) some skirmishes.

Overall, Red Alert 3 is a good (if campy) game for the CnC enthusiast.

I've download this game to my Ps3 but I encountered a little problem with the audio. Soon I began to liked the it and then decided to purchased it from Amazon.com. In just a couple of days I got the item from the seller but I'm still not happy because the same problem occur. Red Alert 3 I think has a problem in AUDIO.
