Need I say more? September 4, 2010 Patrick Menard The game... is awesome. The sound effects are totally on point. When you are hitting the gas, the sound effects make you really feel like you are punching it. Control is pretty solid. Although every gamer will driver differently so you will want to go into advanced tuning if necessary. The game is HARD. I'm still just playing it on "easy"... and it's kickin' my butt. Depending on your driving options, the perceived difficulty may change. Complete novices can set their preferences such that control of the car is not as realistic (thus easier to drive). Hardcore control freaks can set the options so that you are in control of everything (manual driving, no assists, etc.). All in all, the game is pretty pimp. My only major gripe is against the Battle Races... it's one-on-one against the computer... and it is a total pain. Also there are long load times between races (loading of the tracks). That is kind of a drag. Everything else, superb!
When do we get a real racing game? August 23, 2010 CTRC (Fort Meade, Maryland United States) I have had this game for about 6 weeks now and I am not that happy with either my PS3 or this game. Takes extremely long to load (about 3 minutes from system on till playing). Realism is no better than my GT4 on playstation 2 with the exception of graphics and sounds. Same old stuff. Races aren't realistic, but the tracks are. I really wish EA and Sony would stop focusing so much on graphics and start adding some realism to the driving, damage, etc. Just like GT4 you get spun like a top if you hit anything, but the other guy always stays on a straight line no matter what. It's like a bicycle against an M1A1 tank if you brush someone.
Serious cons:
1. Most of this game you play in a multirace mode where you have to compete in 2-5 events to win. Problem is, they are on different tracks and once your car set-up is done, you can not change it during the event even though the tracks are way different.
2. Serious graphics slow down on several tracks. Speedometer says about 120-140 MPH but graphics slow down and it looks like you are driving about 30MPH.
3. Like I said before, if a car bumps you, you go flying, if you nudge one to try to move it a little, it goes no where.
4. Playing in the upper levels of the game seems like you are actually competing against people in cars that have never raced before. EA starts each race with a wreck at the top levels. "Now your up against the best" according to the game, but if I am, why do they always wreck in the beginning OF EACH RACE! :)
5. No qualifying for starting position. You start 11th every time, which is why that wreck is annoying. It always happens in front of you.
5. Due to the auto-wreck in each race :), you have to drive like a maniac to actually win, because if you actually try to drive the car like a driver really would, you would have no chance of winning.....at all.
Pros:
1. Graphics are really nice looking. But aren't we getting tired of just saying that? It's a PS3, that is supposed to be a given, so why do we mention it?
Save your money. Hopefully someone will design a game where damage and racing are more real. I am getting tired of the "oh but the graphics are cool" phase like I said. We are up to 3rd generation of the game system now, enough already with only making things prettier please. It's getting annoying.
Shifted Up August 10, 2010 terasquisher I'd sum it up as Television show "Top Gear" meets "Gran Turismo".. Game has an accurate driving feel, coupled with a profile building experience.. Your accelerated to drive on & improve your ranking. Earning Cash quickly & testing out a wide variety of Cars within your 1st day. Your not limited to only driving your garaged cars. There are plenty of Manufacture Races & other Time Trial Tests to hone your skills. One you begin to tune your cars to met track needs, you're really beginning to master the game.
My favorite part is the Start of the race, the initial battle to get to the lead, avoiding drivers & spinning people out. You will quickly recognize rival drivers who give you a hard time on the track.
Not a bad game but it's not nfs August 7, 2010 edward riddick (usa, ny) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game is very fun to play but the need for speed i remember was not a pimp my ride, circuit racer sim game. It was an open road game with police chases, cows in the middle of the road and all of that. This is fun but don't call it nfs. I'm not sure what sold out worse. This or Metallica!
Really Fun Racing Game - Realistic Enough, But Playable August 5, 2010 Bailey (East Coast, USA) This is a fun, engaging game that simulates well enough to be interesting but does not demand the time, attention, energy, and repetition of a full-blown simulation. I recommend it.
Much has been written, in this forum and elsewhere, about this game's unique compromise between realistic simulation and arcade fun. Most of the comments on the subject have been negative. However, I have found that this game offers enough realism to make it truly exciting to play, while remaining accessible enough to enjoy right out of the box.
The progression system allows for a sense of accomplishment, and the player's driving ability tends to improve from race to race. The game does a nice job of scaling the challenge to the player's abilities, which keeps both the challenge and the reward factors pretty high.
The graphics are excellent, the sound is good, the races are involving, and it is realistic enough to be interesting while playable enough to be fun.
Recommended!
