| Customer Reviews: Still fun but more of the same February 8, 2010 Kendahl Johnson (Bonaire, GA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
My first introduction to Lumines was on the PSP (Lumines 2). I quickly became addicted. Amazingly, I have logged more the 50 hours on the game. When I learned about a Lumines release for the PS3 (a new purchase for me), I decided to drop the 10 bucks and see what it had to offer.
First, it's still a great game. The problem is that it doesn't have too much more to offer. I unlocked all the skins in the challenge modes my first time playing through. I was a little surprised how easy it was. If you are new to the game it will be a challenge. But once you've played for awhile, you can probably go infinitely (although it might speed up...I quit once I'd gone through all 20 stages).
New to the game is a Dig Down mode. This is actually really fun and will keep you coming back for more. You start with rows and rows of bricks and your goal is to dig through these and get two empty columns. I think there are 20 stages...I've only got to stage 17. Once you beat it, you're awarded with a trophy. There's also a sequencer, but I haven't explored it yet. In fact, I ended up putting the tv on mute a few times since the sound effects were really starting to annoy me. The music is okay, but not as good as in Lumines 2.
Which brings me trophies... This was my biggest disappoint with this game. It only offers 11 trophies. I think they really missed the boat here. They could have offered so many more. And one of the trophies seems ridiculously hard (get 210 points in time attack mode - 180 seconds). I know this can be done...or at least I've heard of people doing it. There must be a trick to it...I can barely manage 150 points.
The missions and puzzles are the same as in Lumines 2, but it's still fun trying to work through these. Was it worth the money? I'd say definitely. This is my go to game when I have 5 or 10 minutes and want to beat another mission or puzzle. But if you already have the game for another system, then you don't really need it. I don't know about the additional DLC.
